Looking ahead: Emerging national policy and teacher development

Education is experiencing extensive reforms of teacher development programmes. With the announcement of a government-funded Institute of Teaching the landscape of change can be seen for a period much longer than just the current academic year.

Bradford Teaching School Hub, as part of its Teacher Development Network, has created a timeline for the known changes, dating back to January 2019 when the DfE's Teacher Recruitment and Retention Strategy has published (paving the way of the reforms we see emerging today) all the way to the expansion of the Institute of Teaching in 2023. The Hub has also mapped some of its own activity in preparing for these reforms, including its development of high-quality teacher development programmes relating to coaching and mentoring.
