Meet the team

Bradford Teaching School Hub draws upon the capacity of Exceed Academies Trust (as the accountable body) and system leaders from the region to fulfil its functions. Many of these colleagues combine their Hub-role with that of leading another organisation within or beyond the Trust. The Hub is striving for a partnership approach and seeks to draw on capacity from within and beyond Exceed Academies Trust.

Paul Butler, Director of School Improvement (BTS Hub)

Paul is the strategic lead for the Hub. Paul overseas all aspects of the Hub's function of providing school improvement support, including teacher development.

Emma Dobson, Head of Professional Learning

Emma combines her Hub role with a leading role in developing Exceed Academies Trust's professional learning offer for its schools via Exceed Institute. Emma signposts, facilitates and delivers high quality programmes for schools and trusts.

Christabel Shepherd, Executive Headteacher

Christabel is Executive Headteacher at Copthorne Primary School and Holybrook Primary School, Bradford. Copthorne is the Hub's lead school designated as the Hub. Christabel leads the Hub's Opportunity Area-funded commission for delivering the school-to-school support offer.

Kathryn Gerrard, Head of Initial Teacher Education

Kathryn leads the 'Outstanding' (Ofsted, 2019) Exceed SCITT, training close to 50 primary trainee teachers (SCITT teachers) in Bradford and Leeds hubs. The Hub is expected to be involved in the delivery of ITT provision and this is fulfilled by Exceed SCITT.

Andrew Johnston, Research Champion

Andrew is a teacher at Copthorne Primary School. He has over three-years of experience of supporting teachers at Copthorne and across the Exceed Academies Trust schools to access and engage with research- and evidence-informed practice, including lesson study. Andrew worked with the trust's other research champions to develop The Evidence-Informed School blog.

Duncan Jacques CBE, Chief Executive Officer

Duncan is the accounting officer of the Hub and chairs the Bradford Teaching School Hub Strategy Group.

Rachel provides administrative support to the Hub, including front-of-house support for training events and meetings.
