Working with Parents, Carers and Families

This event will take place between 4:00pm and 5:00pm on 12/01/2022

This series of three webinars will support schools in developing and evaluating how they work with families to maximise engagement and outcomes. The series will focus on using evidence to inform the graduated approach to SEND support, in order to help schools and settings achieve the best possible outcomes for children young people and with SEND.

This series will feature speakers from Special Needs Jungle, the Autism Education Trust and the National Network of Parent Carer Forums. The series is suitable for practitioners across all phases of education, from both mainstream and specialist settings. 

Part 1: Tuesday 12th Oct 2021, 16:00-17:00 - Developing positive relationships with families

  • This session will explore tools and approaches that schools can use to improve relationships with families, including identifying evidence-based approaches that impact positive relationships and exploring strategies to help school leaders implement new approaches. 

Part 2: Thursday 18th Nov 2021, 16:00-17:00 - Making SEND progress meetings meaningful for all

  • This session will explore how to have open and honest conversations about learners' needs and will include a discussion of the tools to help make evidencing progress manageable and effective for all involved. The session will also look at how to improve pupil and parent involvement in progress meetings and support families understanding of the process. 

Part 3: Wednesday 12th Jan 2022, 16:00-17:00 - Preparing young people for transition: a co-ordinated approach

  • The final session in the series will explore how schools can work with families to prepare young people for transition, including supporting families to understand the different phases of transition and sharing strategies that can reduce anxiety for students and families.
