- Primary and Secondary school leaders with responsibility for Science;
- Science teachers.
We are delighted to welcome HMI Eleanor Belfield, Ofsted Science Lead, to this event at the National STEM Learning Centre, York. Eleanor will draw out key messages from the published science subject report, ‘Finding the Optimum’. She will invite delegates to reflect on the findings and what they mean for schools as they continue to address the challenges following the pandemic. Eleanor will dispel some of the myths that surround ‘deep dives’ and inspection practice. There will be an opportunity to ask questions.
In the afternoon, Eleanor will be available to support round-table discussions about both primary and secondary science. Additionally, there will be a choice of workshops exploring different aspects of delivery in the Science Curriculum.

Eleanor Belfield is one of His Majesty’s Inspectors for the North East, Yorkshire and Humber Region. She is also Ofsted’s national lead for science and was involved in gathering and evaluating the research that went into the recently published science subject report. Before working for Ofsted, Eleanor gained significant senior leadership experience as a multi-academy trust school improvement lead. She has also held senior leadership positions in different school settings and phases, including as a specialist leader in education. Eleanor’s particular areas of expertise include school improvement, leadership and STEM subjects with a focus on science. She holds a research Masters degree in Astrophysics.
