Teacher appraisal and NPQs

Hello

Teacher appraisal provides a useful opportunity to identify and agree on their personal teacher development priorities and the support the school will provide. Last week, I wrote to you with a comprehensive breakdown of the National Professional Qualifications, focusing on how to apply in advance of the 12th October 2021 deadline and schools' eligibility for scholarship funding. These new and reformed programmes, backed by scholarship funding as part of the government's Covid recovery offer, are an ideal next step for many colleagues.

This week, I'd like to highlight the availability of another programme that Bradford Teaching School Hub is funding for schools: the Apple Teacher Programme. This funded afterschool programme is designed to help teachers become more confident in using iPad in their classroom. They'll be supported to gain Apple Teacher status along the way. This commences on the 28th September via Zoom.

Check out Say Less Ask More; NQT+1 programme for primary (to support your RQTs); and the Developing Reading for KS2 pupils offer.

Best wishes

Paul

The following week: NQT+1 Development Programme for primary

Your Recently Qualified Teacher - or NQT+1 teacher - has experienced a disrupted initial teacher training programme and NQT year. The DfE has allocated funding to support these teachers (unless they are already involved in the early roll-out of the Early Career Framework). To support these teachers, Harden Primary School will be offering a training and support programme that schools can fund using the grant.

We are exploring the provision of a secondary programme. We'll share details ASAP.

National Professional Qualifications - scholarships available to all state-funded schools

DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS: 12TH OCTOBER 2021

2021-22 brings the introduction of new and revised National Professional Qualifications. Some schools - those in the top 30th percentile of pupils eligible for the Pupil Premium - can access scholarship funding for the other NPQs, too. We have provided a link to the eligible schools below.

NPQ programmes commence in November 2021 so now is the time to apply.

Bradford Teaching School Hub, led by Copthorne Primary School and Exceed Academies Trust, has a leading role in signposting and delivering teacher development support to all 213 Bradford schools and our partners in other regions wishing to access support from Bradford Teaching School Hub.

The Hub helps to fulfil one of Exceed Academies Trust's ethical goals: to contribute to system-wide improvements in education.

Designated by the Department for Education (DfE) in February 2020, Bradford Teaching School Hub’s core functions support schools and trusts to invest in their workforce to grow, recruit, develop and retain the very best teachers, support staff and leaders. We will achieve this through a place-based approach to signposting and delivering high-quality progressive teacher development programmes that complement the internal support provided by schools and trusts. Our vision acknowledges teacher and leadership development are two of the most important forms of school improvement. We will achieve this by enhancing partnership working with schools, trusts and high-quality providers; improving the communication of opportunities with the workforce; introducing new professional learning opportunities; supporting teachers and leaders to make informed choices when selecting continuous professional development (CPD) and support, and ensuring that no school is left behind.

Find out more about our vision, strategies and priorities here.
