Designated by the Department for Education (DfE), Bradford Teaching School Hub - led by Copthorne Primary School and Exceed Academies Trust with functions delivered in partnership with other schools, trust and providers - has a leading role in signposting and delivering teacher and leader development support to all 213 Bradford schools and post-16 colleges and our partners in other regions wishing to access support from Bradford Teaching School Hub.

Early Career Framework (ECF)

We've shared with you in recent newsletters how the support for early career teachers (ECTs) is changing and the entitlement for ECTs to receive an Early Career Framework-based training and induction offer.

We pleased to be able to begin providing school and trust leaders with more in-depth information with plans developing for events and briefings for school leaders. You may also notice increased information shared directly by the Department for Education (DfE).

Full Induction Programme (FIP)

This is the Early Career Framework programme that provides schools with the greatest level of support as well as funding from the DfE. Soon schools will be asked to indicate to DfE whether their intention is to access this from September 2021 for the ECTs.

School-based roles

Schools will be required to have a Mentor for each ECT plus an Induction Lead who ensures each ECT is receiving their entitlement and undertakes the assessment of the ECT. There must be a clear distinction between these two roles.

School leaders need to be familiar with the recently updated Statutory Guidance. More details are available here:

Statutory Guidance

Appropriate Body service for the induction of early career teachers

Bradford Teaching School Hub is in the unique position of being able to deliver the Early Career Framework and Appropriate Body function in one coherent offer.

All qualified teachers who are employed in a relevant school in England must, by law, have completed an induction period satisfactorily, subject to specified exemptions.

Independent quality assurance of statutory induction, through the role of the appropriate body, is important both for ensuring that schools provide adequate support for their early career teachers (ECTs) and that their assessment is fair and consistent across all institutions.

Statutory induction is the bridge between initial teacher training and a career in teaching. It combines a structured programme of development, support and professional dialogue, underpinned by the Early Career Framework, with monitoring and an assessment of performance against the Teachers’ Standards. The programme should support the early career teacher and provide them with the necessary training to ensure that they can demonstrate that their performance against the Teachers’ Standards is satisfactory by the end of the period. Induction should provide a foundation for ECTs and equip them with the tools to be an effective and successful teacher.

Change is coming

Appropriate Body services are changing. School-led AB provision that considers approaches to reducing teacher workload for administering the induction is in development by Bradford Teaching Schools Hub during the summer term 2021.

This will provide a unique joint Appropriate Body and Early Career Framework offer for September 2021. Bradford Teaching School Hub will share more information about its coherent offer during the summer term 2021 so schools can undertake a due diligence process before committing to a service provider. Express an interest via the link below and we will contact you with further information in due course.

Bradford Teaching School Hub, led by Copthorne Primary School and Exceed Academies Trust, has a leading role in signposting and delivering teacher development support to all 213 Bradford schools and our partners in other regions wishing to access support from Bradford Teaching School Hub.

The Hub helps to fulfil one of Exceed Academies Trust's ethical goals: to contribute to system-wide improvements in education.

Designated by the Department for Education (DfE) in February 2020, Bradford Teaching School Hub’s core functions support schools and trusts to invest in their workforce to grow, recruit, develop and retain the very best teachers, support staff and leaders. We will achieve this through a place-based approach to signposting and delivering high-quality progressive teacher development programmes that complement the internal support provided by schools and trusts. Our vision acknowledges teacher and leadership development are two of the most important forms of school improvement. We will achieve this by enhancing partnership working with schools, trusts and high-quality providers; improving the communication of opportunities with the workforce; introducing new professional learning opportunities; supporting teachers and leaders to make informed choices when selecting continuous professional development (CPD) and support, and ensuring that no school is left behind.
