  • West Yorkshire Maths Hub Early Years Work Group: Sign-up now!

    This Work Group aims to support teachers to develop specialist knowledge for teaching mathematics in the Early Years, with particular emphasis on developmental progression and Early Years pedagogy. 

    The Work Group will support teachers to promote positive attitudes to maths so that children are willing to have a go, persevere and share their mathematical ideas.

    Academic Mentors are helping a generation of pupils bounce back from a national education crisis and are part of the government's new National Tutoring Programme. Schools needing mentoring support for students hit hardest by lockdown can access academic mentors via Teach First.

    With Schools needing support, now more than ever, why not think about becoming an academic mentor and be part of helping a generation of pupils bounce back from a national education crisis.

    Teach First are part of the government's new National Tutoring Programme.
    Working with Teach First you would gain salaried classroom experience, using your specialist subject. You would also be expedited for other Teach First programmes (subject to eligibility and availability). Upon completion of training, you would become a Teach First ambassador with salaries starting at £19,000 per annum (pro-rata)

  • Free support for non-specialist teachers

    Do you have non-specialists teaching secondary maths, physics or MFL?

    Teacher Subject Specialism Training (TSST) offers free courses to support non-specialist teachers teach secondary mathematics, core maths, physics and MFL.

    Benefits to your school:

    • reduces the need to recruit externally for teachers in high demand areas – saving time and cost
    • TSST involves no fee for the school or teacher but delivers considerable benefit
    • demonstrates the value the school places on its teachers
    • benefits schools with timetable planning and workforce flexibility
    • courses start throughout the term

  • Mathematics and Physics Teacher Retention Payments

    Mathematics and physics teachers in the first five years of their career are eligible for £2,000 retention payments after tax in each of 2019 to 2020 and 2020 to 2021 academic years, totalling up to £4,000. Applications for 2020 to 2021 academic year payment are now open.

    Teachers must be employed in a state-funded secondary in the North East, Yorkshire and the Humber, or other Opportunity Areas (OAs) and can be employed on a full-time or part-time basis.

  • Science, languages and computing teachers and student loan repayments

    Teachers’ Student Loan Reimbursement is available to eligible teachers who completed their initial teacher training (ITT) from 2013 to 2014 academic year onwards. To be eligible, they will need to teach physics, chemistry, biology, languages or computing in one of 25 local authorities – check which areas are eligible, including Bradford.

    If your school is eligible, you may wish to raise awareness of the scheme by:

    • including information about Teachers’ Student Loan Reimbursement in job postings; and
    • informing any eligible teachers at your school of the scheme
