		<item>	<title><![CDATA[ Snacks, shoulders, and sleep: factors that influence teachers’ professional development decision-making ]]></title>
	<link>https://www.teachingschoolhub.co.uk/news/?pid=3&amp;nid=1&amp;storyid=229</link>	<description><![CDATA[<p>The professional development literature has identified characteristics of effective professional development and investigated teachers&rsquo; reasoning for their professional development choices. A thorough understanding of teachers&rsquo; decision-making about their professional development choices can assist providers in developing opportunities that teachers are likely to uptake. This article reports on a study that examined teachers&rsquo; self-reported decision-making around professional development with the intent of further refining the field&rsquo;s understanding of their choices. The 22 participants were teachers who participated in semi-structured interviews that elicited their responses to questions about the types of professional development in which they participated. The findings reveal how teachers are influenced to attend professional development and shed further light on the nature of the considerations teachers make when faced with professional development choices. We argue that these understandings can be leveraged to design professional development opportunities that will appeal to teachers.</p>

	<link>https://www.teachingschoolhub.co.uk/news/?pid=3&amp;nid=1&amp;storyid=192</link>	<description><![CDATA[<p style="margin-left:0cm; margin-right:0cm; text-align:start">The induction for newly qualified teachers during the COVID-19 pandemic&nbsp;<a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-induction-for-newly-qualified-teachers/covid-19-induction-for-newly-qualified-teachers-guidance">guidance</a>&nbsp;previously stated that a one-off payment was available to all state-funded schools with NQTs completing their induction in summer 2021. This has been changed to all state-funded schools that have, or had, an NQT who completed their induction between the summer term of 2021 and the spring term of 2022. Payment will be made in arrears in the summer of 2022 based on eligible teachers recorded in the school workforce census, received as part of normal payments from the ESFA.</p>

&nbsp;<br />
Introducing Cyber Explorers, an initiative led by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) designed to engage 11-14 years olds in cybersecurity learning.<br />
&nbsp;<br />
Coinciding with demands from the digital technology sector, Cyber Explorers presents an opportunity to develop the knowledge and skills required to safely navigate the modern online world and signpost students to further learning and careers in digital, cyber and wider technology.&nbsp;<br />
&nbsp;<br />
Students will have access to stimulating, fun and inspirational content on a new interactive learning platform whilst they take a virtual voyage through Cyber City. They will start off by solving puzzles, quizzes and more challenges with the help of their own Cyber Ranger, before finally putting their new skills to good use and attempting to rescue Cyber City from Herbert the Hacker.<br />

Ranging from a social media influencer, sports professional, entrepreneur, environmentalist to a healthcare worker, students will select one character to embark on their journey of adventures with. Along the way, they will earn badges and unlock characters from the Cyber Squad.<br />

</item><item>	<title><![CDATA[ Maths Hub update ]]></title>
	<link>https://www.teachingschoolhub.co.uk/news/?pid=3&amp;nid=1&amp;storyid=186</link>	<description><![CDATA[<p>The&nbsp;<a href="https://www.ncetm.org.uk/maths-hubs/" target="_blank">Maths Hubs Network</a>&nbsp;and the&nbsp;<a href="http://www.ncetm.org.uk/" target="_blank">NCETM</a>&nbsp;are continuing to provide subject-specific professional development and support for all primary and secondary teachers of maths in 2022. All professional development opportunities are designed so they can adapt to changing circumstances and ensure that participants can collaborate safely and effectively.</p>

<p>There are still spaces available on a range of Maths Hubs projects, including&nbsp;<a href="https://www.ncetm.org.uk/maths-hubs-projects/years-5-8-continuity/" target="_blank">Years 5-8 Continuity</a>, which focuses on the transition between primary and secondary maths, and a variety of Specialist Knowledge for Teaching Mathematics programmes, designed to support teachers at all stages of their career. Many Maths Hubs are also running Work Groups focusing on issues and topics specifically identified as relevant to their local area.</p>

<p>In the last term of 2021, the DfE published <a href="https://www.ncetm.org.uk/classroom-resources/dfe-guidance-on-teaching-maths-at-ks3/" target="_blank">new&nbsp;guidance for teaching maths at KS3</a>. It was written by the Secondary Team at the NCETM, and additional resources to augment the guidance, including a two-minute explainer video and a podcast, are now available.</p>

	<link>https://www.teachingschoolhub.co.uk/news/?pid=3&amp;nid=1&amp;storyid=183</link>	<description><![CDATA[<p>The Department for Education (DfE) is offering a &pound;1,200 grant for a senior member of school or college staff to access quality assured training to implement an effective whole school or college approach to mental health and wellbeing in your setting. Grants of &pound;1,200 will be available to around a third of all eligible state schools and colleges in England in the 2021 to 2022 financial year. This is part of the government&rsquo;s commitment to offer this training to all eligible schools and colleges by 2025.</p>

<p>The grant is provided to cover (or contribute to) the cost of attending a quality assured course and may also be used to hire supply staff whilst leads are engaged in learning.</p>
